We had a great weekend of racing. We would like to thank all of the volunteers for coming out and helping. It takes alot of man power to make these races work and we couldn't do it with out volunteers.
On Saturday under clear skys we ran our first snox race of the year in Anchorage. It was Round 2 in the State Snox Series Championship. We had over 75 entries with racers coming from all over the state.
In the Pro Stock Class Nick Axhelm from Fairbanks battled all day with Matt Smelcer and Nathan Axhelm. Nick came out with the victory while Matt got 2nd and Nathan came home in 3rd place.
In the Pro Open class Nick Axhelm again won the class after battling with his brother Nathan. They were tied going into the final with Nick taking the win in the Final heat and getting the overall win.
Our biggest Class on the day was the Semi Pro Classes. We saw some awesome racing and some come from behind wins.
In the Semi Stock class Casey Boylan (Anchorage) went undefeated after battling with Kyle Conner (Willow) in final heat making the pass to take the lead with 2 laps to go and holding on for the win. Kyle Conner would take home 2nd and Scott Reierson in 3rd.
The Semi Pro Open class again saw a come from behind win. Casey Boylan once again battle through the pack to take the lead with 1 lap to go. Casey would come home with the win while Matt Balzarini took 2nd and Scott Rierson on the podium again in 3rd.
The Vet class saw Matt Smelcer pick up where he left off last year taking home the win. Seth Whaley and Tom Whistine rounded out the podium.
Womens Pro Class Ashley Chaffin (Valdez) takes home the win over Ashley Woods (Soldotna) and Lynn Walkins.
In the Sport classes we are seeing a decline in the entries so let your friends know that this is a fun class to get started in Snox racing. Collin Clayton looked awesome all weekend taking home the win in both Stock & Open classes.
In the Junior classes we saw Justin Wilson winning the Jr Liq class and Jr Novice Class. Michelle Downey won the JR Girls class. In the 8-11 JR 380cc class Daniel Holtry comes home with the win.
The 120cc class was a blast as always. Its a great time watching all of these little guys & gals racing around the track. Casey Conner was the winner in the 120 Open class battling with Scott Harris all day long. In the 120 Stock Class Jimmy Arend takes home the hardware in first place.

AMMC IRON PUP 2/12/08
There were eight teams of racers that entered the Iron Pup. It was a super cold day at Big Lake so the track was cut back to one lap around the island and back down the Iron Dog shoot to the finish.
AMMC GOLD CLASSIC VINTAGE SNO GO RACE
There were twenty entries in the Vintage Race. Ten of which signed on for the poker run. Of the twenty, three were in the 600cc open class with Tim Brett taking 1st and Dylan Jergason taking 2nd.
The majority of the entries were in the 440cc free air or fan cooled class. #45 Gerald Pelto took 1st place with Ben Sanderlin taking 2nd. Third place went to #52 (whose name I cannot read).
In the 0-400 cc single cylinder class there were five racers entered but only four showed up and one was in the wrong class. Of the four two were signed up for the poker run only and did not qualify for the trophies. This left one lone racer Ron McClurg (who signed up for both the poker run and the trophies) in 1st place. As lady luck was on Ron’s side he was also took 1st place in the poker run with a hand that netted him $100.00. Richard Knox took 2nd receiving $60.00 and Ken Greenlee took third receiving $40.00. David Perala received a gift certificate from the Hanger Lounge for having the nicest sled; while Craig Clayton took the podium for having the ugliest sled and the worst hand.
2/24/08 RACE RECAP I-150 10th Annual Larry Heal Memorial Cross Country Race
On Sunday the AMMC board went out to Willow and ran the 10th Annual Larry Heal Memorial I-150 Cross Country Race. We would like to thank our sponsors Willow Trading Post, Global Fuel,
Randy Robinson, Riverside Launch, Ron McClurg and theHeal Family for supporting our race.
With there support we had an $ 8200 race purse. We had our biggest field ever with 41 entries
and some of the closest finishing times ever. Can you say 26 seconds and 06 seconds.
It was a very close race all day long between Tyson Johnson, Tyler Aklestad and Todd Minnick. Tyler came through on the 1st lap 23seconds in the lead over Tyson and a 1 min lead over Todd. On the second Lap Tyson had closed that gap to 1 second behind and Todd had to change an exhaust in the pits. On the Final Lap Tyson Johnson came across the finish line and waited to see what time Tyler would come in. Tyler crossed the finish line just 26 seconds behind Tyson giving Tyson the Pro Class Win. Tyler would take Second and Todd Minnick took 3rd.
It was even closer in the Semi Pro Class. After recieving a 2 minute Penalty for speeding in the pits Robby Schachle still came out with the Win over newcomer Alrnold Marks from Fairbank with just 6 second lead. Returning to Cross Country racing after 5 years John Faeo Jr rounded out the podium in 3rd.
In the Veterans Class long time racer & support of AMMC Doug Dixon came out of retirement to race. Doug took the win over Bill Wilkes after a closely fought battle. Greg Bradley rounded out the feild with 3rd.
We had our biggest womens class in awhile and newcomer Keri Lee put down some fast laps. Her lap times were right in there with the semi pro mens class. She took the win in her first race with a 13 minute lead over second place finisher Cora Nail. Cassi Sommerville rounded out the field in 3rd.
We had 2 entries in our new Sport Trophy Class with Trevor Boylan finishing in 1st and Kial Dixon taking 2nd.

The Alyeska Motor Madness weekend should be at great weekend and tremendous fund raiser for AMMC.
In years past Alyeska kept all revenue from spectators and parking. AMMC is paying Alyeska for use of the venue, but this year we will recieve all proceeds from vendors, parking, and spectators. With your help, the club will benefit greatly from this event. We will need numerous volunteers to help with the event and there will be benefits such as free parking for those willing to help. We appreciate your help to spread the work load. If you would like to help support your club and make this a great success please call Mel Grove (440-9148).
Here are some additional changes and rules everyone must be aware of.
- Studded Tracks are ALLOWED.....Great news and a big money saver.
- NO pit bikes!
- NO four wheelers! Unless your a volunteer helping with set up, tear down, etc, there will be no other wheelers allowed.
- Quiet hours begin at 10 p.m. and all fires extinguished at 11pm.
- The hill above the parking lot is OFF-LIMITS and will be fenced off. Anyone caught in any area off-limits will be barred from the event and required to leave. No exceptions!
- To maximize spectator parking, all racers will be parked in the upper parking lots. These parking areas will provide easier access to the snow and should minimize driving sleds across the dirt or pavement. Please be prepared to maximize our parking space, someone should be available to assign a parking.
- Parking Fees (Keep in mind money spent this year comes back to the club!)
Motorhomes: $20/day
Trailers: $2/day
Trucks/Cars $5/day
Swap meet parking: $25/day,
8. Check back frequently for futher details. We'll have more information as the event approachs.

We have added another event to the madness on Saturday May 3rd. The Alyeska Monster Shoot Out. Directly following the the Sno-X race there will be a shoot out/Drag race up the hill to see who has the fastest sled out there in their cc class. If you think your sleds fast, here's your chance to prove it or stay home. Talk is cheap so bring $50 and show what you got. Winner takes ALL! Racers will be elliminated until the top dog wins. The rest go home and lick their wounds. Entry form is available on the forms link and you can sign up via email or fax or Friday night in the Day Lodge between 7-9pm or between 8:30-9:30 Saturday morning. This event is strictly open in each particular cc class. Standard insurance and membership fees apply.
